Voices of San Francisco for Our Collective Future:
Annual Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on April 25, 2021

We the members of the UN Global Consultations Committee, on behalf of the United Nations Association of the USA, San Francisco Chapter (UNA-SF), are pleased to announce the Annual Multi-Stakeholder Consultation in San Francisco.

We are calling for the people of San Francisco to gather virtually (due to COVID-19 restrictions) to discuss what local and global issues matter to our community, how the work of the United Nations affects these issues, what other stakeholders hold the most power to make positive change, and what collective message we want to communicate to the United Nations and other stakeholders through our combined advocacy channels.

This annual consultation will build on the work we accomplished last year in response to the public invitation made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.  In March-October 2020 we conducted ten consultations and shared the results with the United Nations as well as with our National, State, and local leaders, consular corps members, UNA Affiliates, and other relevant decision-makers.

We also published these results in our UN75  Report: Voices of San Francisco—the Birthplace of the United Nations

While we are planning to conduct a similar series of consultations with various stakeholder groups for the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, we decided to host one multi-stakeholder consultation on April 25 every year to commemorate the start of the the United Nations Conference on International Organization (UNCIO) held in San Francisco in 1945. The results of these annual consultations will be published in standalone reports (see an example of a standalone report here) and will also contribute to the UNA-SF’s UN80 Report in 2025 representing the evolution of the discourse over the years.  The historic and evolutionary documentary of the ongoing Voices of San Francisco may guide the future of the local as well as international community.

The 2021 Annual Multi-Stakeholder Consultation is scheduled for Sunday, April 25 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm PDT and it will be conducted via Zoom. Delegates will engage in three rounds of small group conversations followed by a round of synthesis and shared reports.  All delegates will be credited for their participation if desired.

The UNA-SF is assembling delegates to represent the incredible diversity and vitality of San Francisco as closely as possible.  If you care about your community and like the idea of co-creating a message to the United Nations and other stakeholders, please apply by April 18 to participate in the consultation. All applications will be reviewed by the UN Global Consultations Committee and you will receive a response from us by April 20.

If you have any questions about this invitation, you can reach us at consultations@una-sf.org.  We would also appreciate it if you would share this invitation with your networks and especially with those who are often underrepresented in such conversations.
